Dream.
Wait.
Fail.
and Persevere.
Our kids can’t learn this process without it being modeled to them. They HAVE to see us dream and chase after God with all of our guts. They have to hear our words and watch our demeanors when we are waiting. Are we patiently waiting? Are we complainers? Probably yes to both of those, amiright?
SO then we get to model what it looks like to screw up, backtrack, and wait patiently for real. Without complaining. The full of faith kind of waiting where we trust the system. We let our mustard seeds take root, and we believe what James says about our endurance. “So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” (James 1:4).
SO LET IT GROW. That needs to be my prayer right now. As I sit here with a list of things to do that feels just a bit longer than I want it to. While I am attempting to wait patiently with the faith of a mom boss who’s a writer on the side while my manuscripts perch on the corner of some desk in some office of several publishing houses. When I teeter on the edge of insanity and forgetfulness. It’s not a pretty look, and I am starting to believe this might now just how my face looks. #stinkeyeforever
I am encouraged when I know I get a do over each day. Each morning, I am given the opportunity to persevere. I learn what that looks like, and I go about my business knowing I have a day job that changes kids and a gaggle of children who are world changers. In short, I know they are watching me. They’ve told me. Plus, I see it in their behavior.
Like the one time we looked all through the house for one Miss Isabelle Rose, aged 2. We finally found her lying between our bed and the wall pretending to talk on the phone. She used her hands in a big Italian way and shooed me away when she noticed me talking to her. She was using a video camera battery talking about her plans for the weekend. So sorry to interrupt. And, I don’t use my hands that much when I talk.*
